Dr. Joshua M. Ammerman is a Washington, DC native and third generation neurosurgeon. A graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine; Dr. Ammerman received his neurosurgical training at George Washington and completed a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Surgical Neurology Branch.
Dr. Ammerman holds academic appointments as Assistant Clinical Professor at the George Washington University School of Medicine and an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He has been named a Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine annually since 2008 and has been repeatedly cited for his excellent patient care by Consumer Checkbook.
Dr. Ammerman currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Surgery at Sibley Memorial Hospital and Chief of the Neurosurgery Section. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Spineuniverse.com; and his academic work has been published in journals such as the Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery, Annals of Neurology, JAMA and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. As an internationally recognized expert in the minimally invasive management of spinal disorders, Dr. Ammerman and his partners are frequently visited by physicians from around the U.S. and the world seeking to learn innovative techniques for the management of spinal diseases.
